Student lives impacted by their Summer Extension Internships
Taylor Wright
Valencia County Extension

"Being an intern at my county extension office was a truly eye-opening experience. The internship offered a lot of hands-on opportunities, and no two days were ever the same. One day I might be tagging over 200 animals for the fair, and the next, teaching a class to community members. I believe everyone should have the chance to experience something like this. It’s a great way to explore the agricultural education field and can significantly broaden your future career opportunities."
Daisy Perea
State 4-H Office

"During the summer of 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at the State 4-H Development Office, an experience that has taught me so much both personally and professionally. I gained valuable insights into youth development, leadership, and the impact of community-based programs. Working alongside passionate mentors like Dr. Jamie Castillo, head of the State 4-H Program, I learned the importance of collaboration, communication, and service. This internship not only deepened my appreciation for 4-H’s mission but also inspired me to continue making a difference in my community. I'm grateful for the experiences and connections that have shaped my growth this summer."
Xander Brock
SW Border Food Protection and Emergency Preparedness Center

"Extension was not something that I was very well acquainted with coming into this internship but the new opportunities that this internship provided did not disappoint. I was able to help workshop, plan, and create course material for a law enforcement training with the goal of educating law enforcement agents about various agricultural threats as well as teaching them about the agricultural sector as a whole. Through this internship I met some very interesting and knowledgeable people who had no problem sharing their knowledge and expertise with me just giving me an even more profound understanding of the extension community. I would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone looking for a summer internship it helps form great connections and an environment that encourages growth."
Elia Rybolt
Cooperative Extension Media / USDA

"Interning with Extension was a wonderful experience that gave new opportunities to explore my interests! One of the highlights was working on the Extension Agent Day in the Life video series with two other interns where we shared careers in Extension. I appreciated the encouragement from our supervisor and peer feedback to improve my work! I had meaningful conversations with all the Extension Agents I met and grew a greater understanding of the Land Grant mission through Extension."
